Privacy Policy

Overview
LiterallyMaps (“we”, “our”, “the site”) is a free educational tool that shows literal translations of Japanese place names on an interactive map. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how data is handled.
What Data We Collect
LiterallyMaps is a static website. We do not have a backend server, user accounts, or a database. We do not collect, store, or process any personal information directly.
However, the following third-party services are used, each with their own data practices:
Third-Party Services
MapTiler
We use MapTiler to render the base map tiles. When you use the map, your browser sends requests to MapTiler’s servers, which may log your IP address and basic request information. See the MapTiler Privacy Policy.
Cloudflare
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may collect basic analytics data (page views, country, browser type) and uses cookies for security purposes. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
Google AdSense
We may display advertisements through Google AdSense. Google uses cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. See the Google Privacy Policy.
Affiliate Links
The site contains affiliate links (such as Saily eSIM). When you click an affiliate link, the destination site may use cookies to track the referral. We do not receive any personal information about you from these services.
Geolocation
When you first visit the map, your browser may ask for permission to share your location. This is used solely to center the map on your current position. Your location data is processed entirely in your browser and is never sent to our servers (we have none). If you decline or are outside Japan, the map defaults to Tokyo.
Cookies
LiterallyMaps itself does not set any cookies. However, third-party services embedded on the site (Google AdSense, Cloudflare, MapTiler) may set cookies as described in their respective privacy policies above. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings.
Children’s Privacy
LiterallyMaps is an educational tool suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children or any other users.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated “Last updated” date.
