About the Creator
LiterallyMaps is an independent project built and maintained by yoshtec — a developer fascinated by the hidden meanings inside Japanese geography.
The project is open source. Place data comes from OpenStreetMap contributors worldwide, and dictionary data from the JMdict project. The translation engine, kanji dictionaries, and map interface are original work.

Wrong or missing translation
Found a place with an incorrect, nonsensical, or missing translation? Please open an issue on GitHub with the place name and what you think it should say.
Report translation issue →Missing place
A place in Japan that should appear on the map but doesn’t? Place data is sourced from OpenStreetMap — if it’s missing there, adding it to OSM will eventually bring it to LiterallyMaps too.

LiterallyMaps is maintained as a side project. Issues are reviewed regularly but responses may take a few days. Translation fixes and data improvements are batched and deployed periodically.
